Review and tests
What a skill version goes through before people get it.
Every skill version starts as a draft that only its authors see. Before it reaches anyone, Parcel checks its files, runs the tests its author wrote, and the reviewers your workspace requires approve it. Then an author publishes it. The Review and tests module holds those steps and the rules admins set for them.
| Who | What they do in this module |
|---|---|
| Authors | Add tests to a version, submit it, upload the results of tests they run themselves, and publish it once approved |
| Reviewers | Read a version with its test results and approve it or ask for changes |
| Admins | Set the review and test rules, the workspace's key for automated tests and a monthly limit |
Version lifecycle
Every state a version passes, and who moves it on
Reviews
Approval before release, and the rules that decide who approves
Automated tests
Parcel runs a version's examples and checks every answer
Manual tests
Run an example in an app yourself and upload what you got
Review checklist
Items a reviewer confirms by hand before approving
What admins can switch off
Admins switch these features under Admin, Features, in the Review and tests section. All four are on by default.
| Feature | When it is off |
|---|---|
| Reviews | A version is approved once its tests pass, with no reviewer. Confidential skills still reach only the Parcel connector |
| Automated tests | Parcel runs no tests itself. Tests of this kind are skipped when a version is submitted |
| Manual tests | Authors upload no test results. Tests of this kind are skipped when a version is submitted |
| Review checklist | Reviewers approve without ticking items. Needs Reviews, so it is off whenever Reviews is |
The automatic checks on a version's files always run, whatever is switched off. Admin, Review and tests shows while Reviews or either kind of test is on.
When your workspace uses tools, tool versions are reviewed on the same Reviews page and follow the Reviews switch too.
